Rotating glass doors have several advantages over standard swinging doors. First, they’re more energy efficient because they reduce the outflow of climate-controlled air into the outdoors.
Because less air is vented outside, the energy savings also come from the fact that it takes less energy to heat or cool a building’s interior when it’s outfitted with rotating glass doors. Additionally, when coupled with advanced airflow and scrubbing systems, rotating glass doors can also reduce a building’s carbon dioxide emissions significantly.
How good, really, are the numbers? The researchers in a 2006 study conducted at MIT on the subject showed that they are, indeed, extremely good. At one building in Boston, the use of revolving doors saved 14.6 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions from the building in a year. That’s more than twice as much as the emissions of a mid-sized motorcar.
At the same time, the revolving doors, even those run constantly by an electric motor, saved more than 75,000 kilowatt-hours of power. Sure, that’s only 1.5 percent of the total electrical output of that particular building. There are, however, a lot of buildings in Boston, or any other city, and the carbon footprint of such cities would be much less were all buildings to have revolving doors in them.
Revolving doors aren’t just greener and more efficient. They’re also ergonomically better for handicapped people because they’re usually much bigger than standard doors. For example, a wheelchair-bound person won’t have to stop and can just roll forward into the building.
In urban centres, air pollution is a constant hazard. Because they allow less air to leave a building, revolving doors also allow less air into a building. This reduction in airflow also means a corresponding reduction in exhaust fumes from motorcars and lorries going by.
For buildings with high-volume foot traffic flow, revolving doors, simply because they’re bigger than standard doors, also allow for less congestion and the freer flow of such traffic. It’s also easier to provide security to the building because of the revolving doors’ construction.
What Differentiates Our Doors?
In addition to construction from only high-grade materials, our doors come with a variety of basic features, including:
•In-floor drive, if motorised
•Vertical door handles
•Horizontal door handles
•Ceiling LED lamps of various colours
We also offer a variety of security options for access control, such as:
•Floor-based locking mechanisms
•Electromagnetic and analogue keys
•Recessed drive mechanisms
We’re also safety conscious regarding our products. In the case of an emergency, the revolving doors collapse and fold inward to allow passage on either side of the central post. In fact, we either meet or exceed all applicable safety regulations in the United Kingdom for revolving doors and access control solutions.
